Operatives Burst Kidnap Syndicate Terrorising Makurdi | Tellwell Newspaper
From Aondona Bunde, Makurdi
Operatives in Benue State have arrested two suspected kidnappers allegedly terrorising the residents of the state capital, Makurdi, and it’s environs.
Two of the 4-man kidnapping syndicate, including the kingpin, are still on the run.
Parading the suspects before newsmen at his office, the Special Adviser on security Matters to the State Governor, Rtd Col Paul Hemba, said the suspects have been causing sleepless nights to the state capital and it’s environs.
He revealed that no fewer than three cases of kidnapping in recent times have been reported against the 4-man syndicate terrorising the public.
“Earlier this year, an immediate past Chairman of Vandeikya Local Government Area, Ibrahim Anoor’s wife was reportedly kidnapped by the syndicate until a ransom of N3 million was paid to them for her release.
When information of the syndicate’s activities  got to police, operatives immediately swung into action until they apprehended the two of them on 9th, August 2022 in within the State capital, while their kingpin and one other are still at large.
Commenting, the husband to one of victim, Alh. Ibrahim Anoor, said that he was overwhelmed  by  the efforts of the police operatives, recalling that his wife was in captivity for nine days before her release on the payment of N3 million ransom.
The kidnappers during an interrogation before Newsmen admitted to the crime.
One of the duo (names withheld), 25,  disclosed that he was a school dropped out and he was involved in kidnapping because he has nothing to do for livelihood.
It could be recalled that the state assembly enacted a law warning that whoever offered his house to kidnappers to use as den risks having the house confiscated or demolished.
Consequently, the house used as den by the syndicate was instsntly demolished.
