The population of those displaced by the flood has also not been specified. But our correspondent reports that the heavy downpour, which began at about 10 p.m. in Makurdi and its environs, causing severe devastation.
A victim Mr John Tuma, who spoke on the spate of damage at Achusa Media estate, expressed sadness that the flood submerged his house, displacing his entire family.
Another affected person residing at Wurukum, Jacob Takema, disclosed that his residential house was submerged and, as at reporting time, the water was yet to recede.
The residence of veteran journalist, Henry Iyorkase, on media Village Achusa was submerged.
Iyorkase attributed the flood, which is a yearly occurrence, to what he described as the failure if the state government to build drainages to drain the rain water out of residential quarters.
The most-flooded areas included, Achusa, North Bank, Wadata, Wurukum, Gboko Road as well as Agboughol, a Suburb of the state capital.
Concerted efforts to reach the state commissioner for Water resources and environment, Dr Godwin Oyiwana, proved abortive as several calls put on his mobile line could not be returned as at the time of filing this report.
