Nigerian shot after attacking guard at Guyana president’s home | Tellwell Newspaper
Tellwell Newspaper, Abuja – Nigeria:

A Nigerian was shot and seriously injured after stabbing a guard multiple times in a knife attack at the residence of Guyana President Irfaan Ali, police said on Thursday.
Police named the Nigerian suspect as Bethel Ikenna Chimezie, a 35-year-old employee at a cleaning service.
The Georgetown Public Hospital said the injured guard was in a critical condition after he was stabbed five times in the neck and other parts of his body.
Meanwhile, Chimezie was unconscious and undergoing surgery on injuries to his head, torso and leg.
Investigators said Chimezie entered the sentry’s guardroom early on Thursday morning and asked to see the president, before whipping out a knife and stabbing one of the guards.
He then grabbed another guard’s service pistol and ran back out into the street before firing “several rounds” at the guardroom, police said.
“The security detail returned fire, injuring the suspect.”
Deputy Police Commissioner Wendell Blanhum said the Guyanese force has asked Interpol for a “comprehensive background check” on Chimezie including “whether he has any criminal history or whether he is linked to any criminal group.”
Investigators said Ali and his family had not been in serious danger during the attack, although authorities did not say whether Ali was at home at the time.
The president has since visited the injured guard in hospital.
