Three people were killed on Thursday when their vehicle hit a landmine in Niger state’s Borgu local government area, security sources told Tellwell.
The three victims were heading to Babanna town from Dekara when their vehicle rolled over an improvised explosive ordnance, causing an explosion that set the vehicle on fire, the sources said.
“All three three occupants of the vehicle were killed”, one of the sources said.
The blast came two days after another explosion along the same route killed three soldiers, including a Captain, said the security sources.
Borgu is one of several local governments reeling under deadly violence by bandits and jihadist groups which raid communities, kill and abduct residents for ransom, as well as looting homes before burning them.
The attacks have displaced thousands from agrarian communities, denying farmers access to their farmlands weeks into the start of the annual rainy season.
